Helmholtz-CAS Joint Research Group “Integrated catalytic technologies for efficient hydrogen production” (HCJRG-118)
This international research group focuses on the development of an ultra-compact, scalable, multifunctional membrane reactor system for efficient production of small amounts of hydrogen on-site and on-demand. This involves the investigation of new nanostructured catalysts as powder materials and coatings with improved activity and long-term stability as well as the study of novel supported palladium alloy membranes and the development of integrated devices using advanced microfabrication technology.

A third Sino-German Workshop organized by HCJRG-118 on topic
In situ Spectroscopy on Catalysts and Membranes was held from August 28th till 29th 2015 at ITCP/KIT. The workshop was attached to the XAFS16-Conference which was organized by Prof. Dr. Jan-Dierk Grunwaldt, and thereby, gave many opportunities to highlight the groups work and scope at both events. On the evening of August 28th 2015 a labtour at ITCP, IKFT, IMVT, IFG and ANKA as well as the Sino-German conference dinner linked the XAFS16-Conference and the Sino-German Workshop for invited and interested guests. After the workshop a HCJRG internal meeting took place, whereby, the progress in 2015 was discussed and a plan on remaining research and publications, remaining personnel and sample exchange and the program of the fourth upcoming Sino-German Workshop in Dalian in September 2015 was settled.
01.07.2015 – 01.10.2015
PhD student Gülperi Cavusoglu (KIT-IKFT/ITCP) stays for three months at Dalian National Laboratory on Clean Energy at DICP for purpose of joint characterization of Rh/CeO2 catalysts made by Flame Spray Pyrolysis via activity tests and TPR, TPO, TEM, SEM, STEM and HRTEM.
22.04.2015 – 28.04.2015
IKFT got granted measurement time at European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) at the Spanish CRG Beamline (BM25 - SpLine). Supported by employees of IMVT and DNL/DICP XAS measurements on catalysts in quartz glass capillary configuration as well as measurements with the specially designed XAS micro reactor with integrated catalyst and membrane were carried out.
06.02.2015 – 13.02.2015
A Winter School of the Helmholtz-CAS Joint Research Group 118 on
Integrated catalytic technologies for efficient hydrogen production was organized at the Environmental Research Station Schneefernerhaus (UFS) at Zugspitze. The School focused on the one hand on a scientific qualification program, consisting of lectures by KIT scientists, a colloquium on case examples referring to industrial establishment of compact chemical processes, excursions and round tours at two companies related to the group’s research objectives – Linde AG Engineering Division at Pullach and Clariant Produkte (Deutschland) GmbH at Bruckmühl-Heufeld – in order to provide direct insights into engineering aspects of industrial catalytic processes and industrial R&D and production of catalysts. On the other hand, the program was rounded off by a snowshoe walking group activity at the top of Germany’s highest mountain Zugspitze, which was fun for all participants. A detailed review of the school is available from the German and Chinese participants: German Review & Chinese Review.
