Abstract

The invention concerns the use of a flameproof component to connect two spaces, the component including several sheets with parallel grooves, the sheets being stacked on top of each other in such a way that channels are formed between the grooves and the surface of the adjacent sheet facing the grooves. The aim of the invention is to provide a simply designed flameproof component which has precisely and reproducibly defined flameproof gap widths and lengths. It makes routine-check testing possible by optical measurement of the size of the gaps, thus making detonation tests unnecessary. In addition, since the gaps can be produced with the required size, components of this type can be manufactured for use in any pressure range covered by technical applications. The component can also be manufactured as a highly transparent element, thus minimizing pressure losses.
